We’re going to work with the month of observances and give the kids some history and social science, as well as holiday observances and what they mean. There seem to be so many things to celebrate in February. It’s a ‘big month’ in that their dad ACTUALLY has a birthday. Yes my husband was a Leap Year baby and he turns… 8! We’ll sample from the Groundhog (and get a bonus double-back on seasons and what that means), the Chinese New Year, Valentine’s, President’s Day, and of course Leap Year! In addition to reading appropriate books, we’ll dabble with some of our favorite items, continuing to impress upon the math basics of counting up to 100, addition and subtraction, alphabetizing, first letters, basic writing, spelling, and so on.
I’m glad that we’re able to take a few minutes and focus on things that they wouldn’t ordinarily get to focus on and have some fun at the same time. Check out our Pinterest Board for Groundhog’s Day HERE!
