We have used a DIY hot chocolate mix recipe ever since we have been married–it was one my mom passed down in a family recipe book, and we love it dearly. However, the sizes of all the containers have changed since the recipe was first recorded, and so I strove to make a new version that tasted the same with modern package sizing. It’s incredibly simple and not too sweet.
Here’s what I came up with:
2 (3 QT. size) pouches of Carnation instant milk powder
2.21 Qt canister of Nestle Quik
1 cup of powdered sugar
11 oz coffeemate powdered creamer (about 2/3 of a 16 oz container)
I like to use an extra large canister and put in 1/2 of the ingredients, stir with a long spoon, then put in the remaining half and stir to combine. It’s perfect for a snow day, if you’re studying with or life at the poles! My husband takes some to work to use in coffee, and the kids like theirs with marshmallows, extra on the side, please!

I’m going to try this soon!
