Obviously, this is the first cloth diaper that went on our current youngest! She had just had her bath and boy was she mad! No worries, she got to nurse right away and was happy immediately! As you can see from the pictures, at around 8.5 lbs at birth she was not cinched down tight, so there’s tons of room for smaller babies for it to fit.
(Company stated fit of 5-12+ lbs)
The inner soaker is made of hemp/cotton and is sewn on one end for easier drying. I love the natural fibers because there’s no chance of stink hanging around like with microfiber!
Because it was hemp, I did prep it about 3 times I think, although it requests 5 pre-washes, I figured a newborn isn’t going to leak those first few wearings, and I was right.
It was easy to use and dried well in the dryer as directed by manufacturer. There was a bit of ebf staining in the top of the flap line of stitches on the back that occurred toward the end of its use. Easy enough to scrub out when you’re ready to resell or sun out. I suspect it would take a while to dry on a drying rack, so I’d use it in rotation with other diapers that dry faster if you line dry everything.
In this picture she was on the last tab and stretched all the way out OVER the weight limit of 12 lbs at the end– I just didn’t want to let it go! It’s really cute!
SPLURGE!
This is a definite SPLURGE worthy diaper. It’s so cute you want to use it over and over again. It’s trim, works well, and even though mine was a heavy wetter, she never outwet it…. (note this is the newer style as of 2014, not the original one-so if you’re buying used, ask. Also the print will be a good indicator.) The price point is a bit over average for a newborn diaper. I think this is a ‘spend’ if you’re going to use on more than one baby (cutting cost in half, third, etc), or will resell. Since this is our third with no guarantee of more kids, we weren’t going to ‘go all in’ with a whole stash of them. I bought it for its’ cuteness and to review it. This diaper definitely will last through more than one baby.
$14.95 or approximately 30 wearings on a VERY large newborn who gains weight very quickly (1/2 lb per week) ~ $0.50 per change **ACTUAL USE**
If baby wears for 12 weeks ~ $0.41 per change
If baby wears for 14 weeks ~ $0.35 per change
Compared to a disposable at around $0.25-$0 .30 per change, not able to be re-used.
Disclosure: As always, this is my blog and I tell you the truth. My humble way of saying, the opinions are my own, and may differ from yours, so use your best judgement in every purchase decision you make–wise in these economic times, right?I purchased this diaper myself, just so my readers could get a thorough review.
🙂
I was not compensated in any way except by extreme cuteness of newborn fluff.
