So last Saturday the power went out (heavy wet snow on the power lines) while I was in the shower. Little did I know it would last.. 29 hours!
We made it about 12 before daddy went to buy a generator. It was getting dark and REALLY cold!
Matt bought this little fireplace thing last week–turns out we got it just in time! It heated the living room fine, but the wipes were still cold!
When we realized we were in for the long haul, we gathered in the living room and I grabbed a basket of what few diapers we had (we hadn’t washed and nearly ran out of small ones!)
Thankfully I had just enough to get us through without breaking into larger diapers, I can’t imagine if we’d been using disposables and ran out!
Her face is red from washing it with ice cold water, but she has her piggy tucked in beside her, so she was happy!
I was glad for internet and LIGHT besides the heat of course!
The kids were thrilled to get some TV.
Seriously the kids were a bit chilly but they thought it was a grand adventure to ‘camp’.
Since I was the one getting half naked every single hour to nurse, I was not as thrilled with the 50 degree temps in the house!
Cold toilet seats, flashlights, candles, and layers of blankets and clothing were definitely the norm as the temps dipped into the 20’s overnight.
The next morning, Matt ran out to the store, got more extension cords, hot coffee, and got us hooked up with the microwave and coffee pot, which meant hot chocolate, hot water for wipes, hand washing, etc. That meant we could get the freezers and fridge hooked back up, too. So far it all seems to have survived the outage.
Definitely happier with a warm belly of food and drink!
From 630 am Saturday to 1130 am Sunday our lives were… changed, that’s for sure!

Ugh! That is so NOT fun! I’d hate that!
