Pinterest is so glitz and glamor, right? Everything takes 2 days to finish, there’s glitter everywhere, and by the end of it, you don’t even want to see whatever you’ve done because of all the hassle it took to ‘make’ something look easy. Over the years I’ve done a couple of crafty things for the holidays that I posted about. Recently I stuck them up on Pinterest so they would be easy to share with someone. So I thought that I might share them with you (again for those of you that have been with me a while).

The first one is for a vintage looking hobby horse candy cane holder. Basically? It’s a felt ornament that holds a candy cane on your tree. If you can sew a stitch and/or use glue, you can easily do this project. Felt is VERY inexpensive and you can make quite of few of these out of a single piece of felt.
The second is more like a gift that you can give to others. Great alternative to just stashing an envelope with a gift card or cash on the tree, this little sleigh is made up of candy goodies and holds a small ‘take out’ style box on the back that can easily hold a trinket, gift card, or more food! Sleigh gift holder. These would actually be great for a Secret Santa, too. They take no time at all, and you can make a whole raft of them for not much cash. The little stand up chocolate santas and of course candy bars can be purchased by the 6 pk which is handy if you want to do several in a row.
Finally, there’s the tween or teen girl in your life that you have NO IDEA what to give, right? Too old for dolls, too young for makeup…but every girl can use a tote bag, right? Even if it’s just for hauling clothes to gym class. Following simple iron-on instructions, at most craft stores you can find cloth, beaded, glittery, just about any type and any style of ‘awesome’… skulls, owls, horses, flags, you name it, there’s something iron-on for that special hard to buy for tweenager in your life.

The candy cane horses are really cute. I have a lot of felt at work, and candy canes are inexpensive. I have added it to my list. We do a craft every day in December. The kids love it, the parents are thrilled with all the ornaments… and I don’t have the usual ‘what shall we do’ thing when making lesson plans.
