Topic: How important are book covers in getting you to read a book? How do you pick what blogs or books to read? What’s the one thing that will get you to pick up a book or click on a link every single time?

As for online stuff? It has to catch my attention. Ask a question relative to my life, and I’ll at least take a look. Drama or just talking about trash? Not likely.

I have 4 categories that the books I read often fit in:
Favorites: I have my favs. Scroll through my good reads and you’ll see… Kathy Reichs…The Women’s Murder Club….Anything Harry Potter related..
Kid(s) books: Because they are safer than adult books a lot of times, and their story lines have imagination and creativity lacking or that wouldn’t make sense for adult literature.
Interest topics/Mind stretchers: Economics (started with Freakonomics re: baby names), Psychology, Statistics… and what have you. These are my challenges and what my brain craves now and again.
These I read the descriptions of before pursuing and/or just get the latest in the series.
…
and then…
there’s the guilty pleasures. or the… trashy treasures…eye candy for the brain. Junk food for the romantic heart.. or whatever. Let’s face it, they’re
ROMANCE NOVELS.
Yup. I read them. Sometimes I read a dozen in a row. I know it’s not real. Eventually I get sick of them, because I understand fully that my husband is not in the slightest bit romantic. The plot twists and so on that ‘keep them apart’ drive me nuts, too. So eventually, I go back to one of the other 3. It’s a healthy balance, I think. These I tend to grab the most colorful covers or intriguing/hilarious titles on the front and then read the description. I even found a few that had ‘geeky’ characters and I was SO THRILLED! Computer programmers are sexy too!

I saw the 20th Stephanie Plumb (Evanovich) when I was at Barnes and Noble. But it was hardback and way out of my budget. 🙂
