Prompt: You’ve being exiled to a private island, and your captors will only supply you with five foods. What do you pick?
This is an interesting prompt because it doesn’t say it’s a deserted island, nor that it’s bare of any sustainable life and whatnot, so we can make our own assumptions. My assumption is going to be that there’s abundant fresh water and possibly some fresh fruit and juice that I would be able to get on the island. The fact that I’m getting food (for a lifetime?) is actually a pretty good deal–unless I have to do dishes! Therefore I would go with some nice ‘basic’ foods that include the 4 food groups. In this ideal world, everything is in prime condition, too. Also there’s a hot pirate that would sneak me some extras now and again.
1. Basket with a bread variety with toppings such as butter, jam or peanut butter
2. Eggs
3. Grilled meats
4. Vegetable soups
5. Potatoes
Since eggs, bread and potatoes can be prepared in a variety of ways for any meal, they’re a good bet. Assuming I have fruit, a vegetable soup of some sort would help my intake of veggies greatly, and of course meat is pretty broad spectrum as well and could include anything from bacon to steak, so I feel pretty covered. I guess I’m missing out on dairy, but I figured that would come in with adding to the eggs, potatoes and ‘stuff’ to put onto the bread before it was served to me. I have great ideas, right?
So what would you pick?
