Yesterday I had ultrasound number FOUR for this baby. I think we’re probably done with them, which is nice. I love the pictures, but the intrusion, not so much. I was extremely glad that I took the time to shave my legs and let’s face it, do a good clean-up in the twilight zone, because they had to do an external AND an internal exam. That was a surprise. Painful, too. I actually don’t recall it being all that painful before, but my restrictions the last 2 months have meant zero eh hm ‘bedroom’ activity so shoving a giant wand in there and poking around was NOT pleasant. Was she mining for gold? If there was gold in there, my husband would have found it a long time ago, thank you very much…
Anyway…
She kept the sex of the baby a surprise still, YEAH! This kid has CHUBBY cheeks. Holy. Freaking. Cow… I can’t even imagine how much it is going to weigh. For the last few weeks I have been banking on 10 lbs. We’ll see. Hershey (he or she) is also laying completely sideways, I think both girls did that, too, giving me some good shoves outward whenever they could. That explains a lot. It explains why I get so many pokes and prods (knees, elbows, fingertips, all facing UP) that feel funnier than normal and why I look so normal from the back but so wide from the front. Hello? a 15 inch human laying sideways? Yeah…
So good news is that my preschool aged kid can get all her kindergarten shots at one go (I was worried about the varicella) and I got the rest of my questions answered. I got my flu shot. The even better news is that my restrictions are lifted. Yes my husband will be thrilled. Given the thorough prodding I was given yesterday, he wisely kept his enthusiasm to himself, but I imagine he’ll be anxious to not be shall we say ‘ignored’ until the baby is born. (me too) It also means that if something happens, it will be a matter of just going to the hospital, not calling an ambulance. Definitely a big bonus in my book. Although I’ve slowed down a LOT anyway, I don’t have to worry too much about…. well.. anything.
THAT is a good thing!

I loved ultrasounds – but never had the wand! I’m thinking I got off easy… Are your ultrasounds 3-D? That cool invention was brand new when I was pregnant and I never got to have one, but since then I hear they’ve become quite common.
