Today was a WEIRD day. I had a show on DVD that needed to go back to the library with 2 episodes left on it, and some packages and letters to mail, so I encouraged my little fauxmschooler to color and read, and then watch educational tv on the tablet while I got that done. I don’t often watch drama laced tv at that time of day and keeping the kids calm while I did it was a task in itself… We ended up in our small town about 2 hours later than we would on a normal day, at about noon.
There were kids everywhere. Teens mowing grass, playing football with younger siblings, in cars with grandparents.. I thought that was weird.
Then I started thinking maybe it was a holiday and I didn’t know it. Returning things to the library went fine. Then I got to the post office with my kids and arms full of boxes and.. the gate was pulled down. I was completely flabbergasted. I saw more kids on the way home and truly thought it was some sort of holiday and I just didn’t know it. Or maybe I had dreamed what time of year it was. My daughter assured me that it was September. I kept wondering if it was some sort of holiday. I couldn’t figure out what it would BE though…
Turns out it was just a 1/2 day from school and the post office closes itself during the lunch hour. I was really starting to think I had forgotten something, though.. I was having an ‘out of mind experience’… do you ever have those? Where you start to question EVERY SINGLE THING just because one or two things seem strange?
We hopped over to the grocery store to grab some lunch and on the way out we passed one of those pegboard things that hold gift cards in the outer lobby. My toddler kept saying ‘something is getting me’ on the way out the door. Finally I reached back to smooth her shirt and found a peg stacked with foot locker gift cards attached to her waistband. I will never figure out in a million years how that happened. We brushed up against it I guess, but are they so easily detached or had someone else knocked it loose and not gotten it back on and so it was just kind of dangling there waiting for us to walk by? Either way I just took them back in, stuck them on the display and walked back out. Since they have no monetary value, I figured it was pointless to try and even explain it to the teen working there.
The weather lady said there was a slight chance of storms, so of course we had a soaking pour down that killed our tv and internet connection for a good portion of the night.. AND 2 of our brand new shows probably didn’t record or will error out 🙁 So of course I’m typing this at 3 am and back dating it to last night so it will post yesterday.. if that makes sense.. stupid weather.
Do you ever have those ‘out of mind experiences’.. or is it just me?
