Today we ‘Respect the Turkey’ aka celebrate Thanksgiving. It is/was my mom’s turn to host the larger family event and when she realized I would not be able to join everyone in the fun (my doctor says no WAY are you traveling at that stage of pregnancy…) she moved the date up. Is she awesome, or what? The funny thing is, so far no one seems to mind. We have family that comes down from Chicago-land and they are THRILLED! They volunteered to bring a turkey. Really. Half the time up there it’s frigid/icy/snowy by Thanksgiving and where we live, it’s a real toss up. It honestly is. Since we’re doing it today, everyone still has Monday to have an end of summer barbeque at home.
I know, it rocks, right?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still having turkey at Thanksgiving, but hey, I always start craving it around the end of August or when it cools down anyway, so I just count this as a bonus holiday! During the real one, I’ll be relaxing at home, shopping online, or in the hospital–probably shopping online. Hey there’s great deals that day (online). I really doubt we’ll do ‘Black Friday’ again though. As much fun as it was in theory (last year we had a date and paid a babysitter)… it wasn’t much fun.
.. and of course this frees up my mom at the end of November should this kid decide to come early. Which is a huge bonus.
So I bet that’s not what you’re doing this weekend..
What are your labor day plans?
