You’re hurridly putting laundry in the washer when it happens. A child screams ‘noooo’. You’re not sure which one. Your heart skips a beat. You’ll never get that one back. You rush in, your adrenaline surging, bile rising in your throat. You slide to a stop, looking at both, seemingly whole, unaffected children and screech ‘what is WRONG?!?’ — and get 2 blank stares back. From the sound of the last 15 seconds, you’d think that the world was coming to an end. Turns out, it was nothing. I wonder if my kids will miss those heartbeats in the end?
