About a year ago I was a tester and reviewed a Rearz cover on my then newborn. I loved how trim it was. I was offered another review opportunity* this time for the Flair Snap Prefold. Wouldn’t you know this has fallen to the bottom of my email, and although I use it every single time I wash cloth diapers, I have neglected this for WAY too long. I kept thinking that my little one would grow out of it. Boy was I wrong! A long overdue thanks to Rearz for the opportunity.
After chatting with them, I received the medium size with multicolored stitching. Let me tell you, this diaper has definitely changed the way I view all diapers in general, and plain ‘ol cotton diapers specifically. They claim to use ‘high end DSQ cotton’ to make these diapers and that they are ‘long lasting and easy to care for’ and I could not agree more. I have been using this diaper for a full year + now, from the time she was about 14 lbs. It has been washed twice a week every single week since then, so easily 100 times. I see ONE stray thread on a seam, and the tag is completely worn out. Other than that, this diaper is absolutely perfect in appearance. If a new tag was sewn in, I would believe it was in new/washed condition. It has quilted up very nicely. The colored stitching is absolutely gorgeous. The snaps are hardy and the fabric washes up beautifully every single time. I was curious about the size of these, since the diaper has fit my daughter well for so long. It appears that they’re supposed to fit 14-27 lbs and be about 14×18″. My daughter weighs about 22 lbs at 18 months and I would say the diaper has shrunk to about 13×15″ (unstretched) with continued washing.
Upon suggestion from the company, I simply attach the diaper at the waist with snaps and then roll the legs in before applying a cover. A lot of times, I even use this WITHOUT a cover for some breathing time on baby’s tush. When she was getting in her molars, I could not wash and dry this diaper fast enough! It did a great job of absorbing, while allowing me to keep an eye on things to see how soon she was wetting to keep her dry. Honestly? This diaper made me fall in love with cotton inserts. I love the simplicity of cotton, how it never holds smell, how it always washes clean and looks brand new every time it comes out of the dryer. This diaper is a little harder to roll than other prefolds made from thinner cotton, but the extra few seconds it takes to tuck in the generous size on a speeding toddler is well worth it. I think if she ever outgrows this, I will put it tri-folded into a pocket diaper as an insert.
For $30 for a 6 pack, this diaper fills a niche that has largely been ignored by US manufacturers and other ‘big brands’. How awesome is a prefold that snaps on, no snappis, pins, or boingos needed! I ruined a shirt one day because a snappi tooth had come loose. No chance of that with these lovelies! P.S. they qualify for free shipping!
