I’m not sure how anyone has ever managed to ‘keep’ a house. For me, it’s all about backsliding. No matter how hard I work through the week, the minute the clock ticks over to Friday night, everyone seems to go crazy and by the time I pick myself up on Monday morning, it’s like I never did anything at all. One of my blog friends suggested that she was doing a ‘dishes, laundry, blog’ thing, and it kept her from losing complete control. I kind of liked that and did it for a while, and then I gave up and backslid and did 4 loads of laundry in a day and dishes every 2 days instead. I forgot to blog completely.
It’s Lenten season now in Christian churches. You’re encouraged to either A. give something up, or B. add something meaningful to your life to celebrate the Easter season. Last year all I did (while pregnant) was read a book. It was a good one, and it has stuck with me, so I call that a win. This year I am giving up soda. I know, I know, it’s hard to call carbonated water with no caffeine and no sugar ‘soda’. That’s part of it. Another part is that my teeth seem to not be doing so hot and I wonder if that’s part of it (although my teeth have always been pretty brittle), it sets a bad example to be drinking soda say 6 times a day, it does have a price attached to it (going up ALL the time), although it costs about the same for 24 cans of soda as for 6 beers for my husband to last a week (or longer), so it’s not like it’s a huge amount, but it does have its’ price.
Now that I’m not sitting, calmly drinking soda to keep myself from eating, I’m finding I have to ‘do’ things. I have to make tea, or lemonade, or whatever instead of just grabbing a soda out of the fridge. That keeps me busy and on my feet, so maybe I’ll drop a few calories here and there? However, I suppose drinking lemonade with sugar in it will counteract that. Hmm. Anyway the point is that I’m going to try and ADD something, too. Yesterday, I did the requisite laundry and dishes (well, I did diapers, which I don’t technically count as laundry, and I put clothes in the washer, that now need to go in the dryer after sitting overnight), and then I did a bonus item for the house. Yesterday it was taking a n old old box of baking soda out of the fridge and dumping it down the drains, followed by vinegar, and then boiling water a few minutes later. This of course provides a cool reaction, and cleans the drains, as well, the bubbling of the mixture takes a lot of gunk out of there, cool, right? Anyway, that was yesterday. I’m up for ideas for the next 39 days of quick things I can do to ‘spruce’ up the house-any suggestions? Remember how I cleaned this and that all the time I was pregnant so the house wasn’t a complete disaster area? I was right to do that, as it has taken 6 months to get back to ‘wow, the house is a wreck, I really need to do more than laundry and dishes one of these days’– state of mind.
So I’m giving up soda, I’m trying to get back into the laundry/dishes/blog routine, and adding in a bonus.
I’ve also started a pinterest account, trying to organize some thoughts for things that I find important. You can find that…HERE.

I made a huge list at the end of my pregnancy of things to do around the house. Baseboards, mini blinds, etc.
