Fun Monday, Vacation, Vacation, Vacation!

fun_monday_logo_jpglargePatience is our Fun Monday host this week. Y’know, it’s getting on to that time of year. Everyone’s already thinking of what they’ll be doing on their summer vacation. So, let’s hear about it already!! And if you’re not planning a vacation, tell us about vacations past. * I’m hosting next week, see bottom of this post for the information, and I’ll be using Mr. Linky so there’s no need to sign up, just come back when your post is done and link on!

Vacations, vacations, hmm! What a great topic! We have taken several small family vacations (my parents wanted to go somewhere, so my husband and I went along and my husband drove most of the way) including trips to Louisville, where we visited Churchill Downs, we all like the Triple Crown races, especially the Derby so that was really fun to ‘stand in the hoofprints’ of those that have raced there; The Louisville Slugger Bat Factory, where we each got a tiny bat after the tour, and my husband bought a standard sized bat for himself; and a glass blower, which was very hot during that time of year, but neat nonetheless.

My husband and I went to Wisconsin a few years ago for the Midwest Bronco 40th Anniversary. Here’s a picture of the Bronco on the trip-yes we made it out!

I was in the passenger seat.

Last year we went to North Carolina to vist my aunt for their annual ‘Mountain Luau’–it was quite a bit of fun, even though I was pretty darn pregnant at the time, and it was a long drive on a shoddy bladder. We did stop every couple of hours, but again, a long trip. We stayed a few days in a cabin near her house,  which had a small pond and a stream. I would love to have wandered down on the rocks in the stream, but I was forbidden by my husband and mother. My dad probably would have let me do it. 🙂 Anyway, we did look at a couple of homespun furniture places, downtown shops and tried to find any kind of fresh fruit or nuts or whatever, but didn’t have much luck. You’ve seen “horse” quite a few times if you follow the blog, that was Keeley’s first gift, from her grandma, which was purchased in one of the local shops there in NC, and he sits beside her every month so we can gauge her progress. Most people agree that horse keeps shrinking. I have a news flash for them: She weighs 16 pounds people! Woo!  Here’s horse for those of you that haven’t seen him.

This summer, we will probably just visit family at random times for vacation. A real vacation will have to wait until Keeley no longer needs mommy every 2 hours for a snack, and she’s we’re comfortable with a babysitter.

I’m hosting on April 13th and next week’s theme is: Strange Dreams. Do you have any dreams, particularly recurrent ones that you feel no one else has? I recently talked to my friend Stacy on the phone and found out that we’d had the same odd, recurrent dream. Or, just tell us about an odd dream you had as a kid (did you dream you were falling and end up on the floor?) Have fun and remember…There’s no need to sign up, just come back Monday (or as soon as you’re done!) and put the link to your post on Mr. Linky-I’ll put it up on Sunday for those of us that live outside of the States! If any of my regular readers that don’t blog want to play, just let me know and I’ll create a post for you! Anyone want to host on April 20th?

  1. First……awwwwwwwwwwwww, she’s adorable!!!! What a darling.
Second….I would love to see all three races in one year. I too am a fan.

Happy Fun Monday…my post is published if you’d like to stop by. Have a great week.

  2. What a sweet baby ! of course when my son was that age, we didn’t go on holidays either. It’s too difficult with a little baby and it’s not really holidays ! The first time we took holidays was when he was 2 years old.

  3. Keeley is so sweet I could just give her a big cuddly. I wonder if I could offer my services as a baby sitter to get some more vacations! LOL.

    I can’t think of a single dream-strange or otherwise-help!

  4. Great post, thanks! And thank you for your comment on my post. I was also very concerned for the horses. I intended my story to be funny, but I felt I had to put that serious note in towards the end. I know nothing about horses, but what you described sounded just like these horses: heads down, seemingly bored. We were also instructed to hit our horses if they didn’t go into the water willingly. I flat refused to do that. It turned out that she was more than happy to go into the water, and hilarity ensued. But thank you for your thoughtful comment; I am glad I was not alone in my worry.

Thanks for hosting next FM. I will ponder and will sign up if I can get my act together!

  5. I love the Bronco picture! We have done that an several occasions when we had a Suburban. Fun!

I am in for next week. I may not be able to come back and sign Mr. Linky as I will be away, but I will prepost so it will be ready!

  6. I don’t blame you for wanting to wait until Keely is a little older to take a vacation. It sure is alot of work taking a small child and all the “equipment” on vacation. By the way, she is adorable next to “horse”.

  7. One day, I WILL get to Wisconsin! Like Vermont, it draws me.

You sound like most new-ish moms. It’s really hard to travel with a baby (mine would always throw up all over the car about 30 minues into the trip) and staying home or close to it becomes the norm for a few years. We’re thinking about driving out west with our boy, who will be 10, for our first actual family vacation since he was born!

  8. Hi Jill,
My sister lives in Louisville so I have spent many vacations in the city. North Carolina and Wisconsin are great vacation spots too. But the best part of the post sre the pictures of your baby. She is very cute.

  9. Sorry you came here to find that, a lot of us didn’t see parking lots for several weeks. Were you west?
Just dropped by to tell you how much people like your word ver sentence about the Muppet flooring. I may have to give you an honorable mention or something.

  10. Wow – it is amazing to watch their growth next to a toy. I wish I had done that with mine. The first year of growth is amazing!
