Fun Monday: Music Mania

Ooh a Shiny Pen says: Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great. **Please scroll down and read my ‘Project Support Beauty in Nature’ post too!

Well this is definitely one of my favorite songs to sing along to. I even get to howl. It’s just a feel good song that reminds you how great it is, get this… to be alive, without any artificial means of feeling that way. Life just as life, and not altered by anything. The simple things in life. That’s me.

TRAVIS TRITT
It’s A Great Day To Be Alive

I got rice cooking in the microwave
Got a three day beard I don’t plan to shave

And it’s a goofy thing but I just gotta say

Hey, I’m doing alright

Yeah I think I’ll make me some homemade soup

Feelin’ pretty good and that’s the truth

It’s neither drink nor drug induced

No, I’m just doin’ alright

And it’s a great day to be alive

I know the sun’s still shinin’ when I close my eyes

There’s some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can’t every day be just this good?

It’s been fifteen years since I left home

Said good luck to every seed I’d sown

Give it my best and then I left it alone

Oh I hope they’re doin’ alright

Now I look in the mirror and what do I see?

A lone wolf there starin’ back at me

Long in the tooth but harmless as can be

Lord, I guess he’s doin’ alright

And it’s a great day to be alive

I know the sun’s still shinin’ when I close my eyes

There’s some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can’t every day be just this good?

Sometimes its lonely

Sometimes its only me and

The shadows that fill this room

Sometimes I’m fallin’, desperately callin’

Howlin’ at the moon

(Auuuoo! Auuooo!)

Well I might go get me a new tattoo or

Take my old Harley for a three day cruise

Might even grow me a fu man chu

And it’s a great day to be alive

I know the sun’s still shinin’ when I close my eyes

There’s some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can’t every day be just this good?

And it’s a great day to be alive

I know the sun’s still shinin’ when I close my eyes

There’s some hard times in the neighborhood

But why can’t every day be just this good?

  1. Great choice! I love this song – the tune, the tempo, the beat, the words and, oh yeah, Travis Tritt-not too hard on the eyes, either.

    Thanks.

  2. This is a great song and a happy one, too. I’d like to see you grow that fumanchu (sp?) though. Those little ooh ha wha noises he makes in the middle of the song always crack me up:o)

  3. Oh how fitting – “sometimes there’s trouble in the neighborhood…” And here you are doing so much good for the neighborhood! good choice of songs!

  4. Great choice J! I’m looking at your 08 books. Do you agree with me that the Patterson books have fallen? I didn’t even get 6th Target, I was so disappointed in the last five of his books. I love O Pioneers.

  5. LOVE. That. Song.

We have recently unearthed our MP3 collection and it’s one of the ones that Mike will play when he’s trying to suck up and make me smile with his musical choices.
