In a few weeks, she won’t be our baby anymore. She’s potty trained with very few accidents when you ask her often if she has to go, she has her own room, loves her stuffed pig and is nearly always smiling.
She tries on new emotions, speaks in FULL sentences, paragraphs, really. Long ago she realized if she looked cute when asking something, she was more likely to get it.
My older child mentioned that a grandmother had put in a ponytail holder while they were visiting. I hadn’t thought about it, so I tried it Sunday. I had put clips in her hair a couple of times recently, so she was used to me doing it, and with the combo of 2 clips and a teeny tiny holder, we managed a hairstyle that lasted all day! My oldest had enough hair to do this at around 16 or 18 months I think, poor B just hasn’t had that much hair! So anyway, her first official, pictures and all!

It’s hard to be mad at this kid. It’s 3 am Monday morning as I’m typing this. I neglected to get up at midnight when I should have to take her to the bathroom, so at 2 am I was changing sheets, and then I couldn’t fall back to sleep– anyway, point being that she was thrilled to have me change her sheets, giggled when I put the new ones on, and enthusiastically said ‘this one next mommy’ and ‘where’s my pillow’ and ‘thank you for changing my room mommy’ as I was taking her wet laundry downstairs to wash. She was thrilled with her pink underwear, pink pants and ‘yes this shirt, yes’ as she got new jammies.

She certainly does throw her tantrums, but they are short lived, like a cloudburst storm that clears away leaving everything feeling renewed. Her mood doesn’t stay grumpy.

She’s still teething pretty badly, getting her first set of molars I think right now, anyway, she seems to have a lot of trouble eating when her mouth hurts, but doesn’t say so, it’s only when she refuses things like crackers that we realize she’s in pain.

This kid loves to sing, somewhat randomly, but at least she sings real songs. ‘I’ve got peace wike a wiver in my sooooul’ from Sunday school, she tries really hard at twinkle twinkle and the ABC’s but just doesn’t have them memorized. There are more. The bits and pieces she knows of different songs, though, she sings to the right tune.

She knows her colors, most of her shapes (octagon and pentagon are hard to say), and her letters. We’re working on counting. Working on pronouncing words right and remembering to use our manners in full sentence form. She’s been able to put on her own undies and pants, and flip flops for a while. Most of the time she still gets help, but this is earlier than older sister, for sure, by at least a year! She puts her bib on at the table if it’s the pull over kind, and at least once got on socks, and once her shirt, and once her sneakers by herself. If given enough time I think she could completely dress herself with encouragement. That’s huge. She even brought me out shoes Sunday. They weren’t the ones I was going to wear, but since she brought them out to me, I put them on anyway and told her thank you. She’s a very thoughtful child.

We started with prayers earlier than big sister, and I ask her now what part she wants to do first ‘now I lay me down to sleep’ which she calls her ‘ay me’s’ or her ‘God blesses’ where we bless everyone from her stuffed pig to her friends and family before saying Amen.
…
She’s definitely more attached to me than big sister seems to be, or at least she shows it more. She’s easygoing and has such enthusiasm for just.. life.

Obviously.. love her.
I hear that second children are often easier and learn faster than the first one. part of it is that the parents are more relaxed the second time around and part of it is having the older child as an example. I’m sure there’s more to it than that, but since I stopped at one, I couldn’t say from experience! B seems like a lovely, sunny child.
